Rocca Pietore is a place rich in ancient traditions and culture that still survive today, thanks also to the support of the Union of Ladins de Rocia, which works to recover and enhance this cultural heritage. For those who are looking for a holiday that combines sport and culture, a visit to the many artisan shops of Pian and Sottoguda, internationally famous for wrought iron and woodworking, is a must; the main street of Sottoguda is very characteristic, where you can admire some of the most beautiful iron statues. Among the historical monuments, it is worth visiting the Gothic-style church of S. Maria Maddalena in Rocca Pietore, with valuable works of art; the small church of Sottoguda; the church of San Gottardo in Laste, which stands on a small hill from which you can enjoy an exceptional panoramic view; and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie, a center of Marian devotion embellished with works by contemporary artists such as Toni Benetton and Augusto Murer. In winter Rocca Pietore is the perfect place for ice climbing enthusiasts: here you will find the famous Serrai di Sottoguda, a deep natural gorge about two kilometres long, carved into the rock between Malga Ciapela, the starting point of the Marmolada cable car, and Sottoguda and enclosed by huge rock walls that fall sheer. This gorge is the most famous and popular ice gym in the Dolomites, and with its walls and frozen waterfalls offers unique emotions to lovers of this sport. The resort also offers 60 km of perfectly groomed downhill ski slopes, suitable for beginners and experienced skiers alike. The modern lifts allow you not only to reach in a few minutes the top of Marmolada thanks to one of the most spectacular cable cars in the Alps, but also the connection to the Dolomiti Superski and the direct connection to the Sella Ronda. And if you are still not satisfied, the ski bus will take you to the Civetta ski area. Cross-country skiers have at their disposal a beautiful 15 km long track that enters a silent fir forest. Very suggestive are the routes to do with snowshoes, like the one in Val Ombretta, a classic itinerary along the foot of the famous south wall of the Marmolada with a view on the top of the "Fungo d'Ombretta".
