An unmissable stop for those who want to enjoy a breathtaking view is Castel Romano, which is located near Pieve di Bono. Built in the 12th century, it stands out for its majestic rectangular tower that dominates the entire Valle del Chiese. The walls of this ruin - which is what it has become after centuries of neglect and several cannon shots that reached it during World War I - hide ancient legends that tell a bloody story.Mentioned for the first time in 1253, it belonged to the lords of Appiano and d'Arco until, in the 14th century, it became part of the Lodron family's possessions, already owners of the castles of Santa Barbara in Lodrone di Storo and San Giovanni in Bondone.
The manor took shape probably starting from the twelfth century from a large quadrangular tower incorporated later in a fortress surrounded by one or two rounds of walls and made with large granite ashlars. Around the fortress, the central nucleus of the castle, develop the Renaissance buildings wanted by Lodron and inhabited until the eighteenth century.
