Røsnæs, and the Denmark’s Wine

Røsnæs, on the westernmost tip of Zealand, was one of the first natural areas to be protected in Denmark. The area’s glacial hills, windswept trees and steep slopes are also on ‘Danmarks Naturkanon’ – a list of areas of outstanding natural beauty that includes 15 unique natural sites in Denmark.

It’s not just the landscape at Røsnæs that’s special – there’s also a unique climate that has more sun and less rain than the rest of the country. This encourages both rare flora and fauna and also provides ideal conditions for producing wine. Røsnæs is in fact a genuine wine-growing region, producing international standard wines. You may not think of Copenhagen or Denmark when it comes to wine, but SURPRISE – Denmark has a growing number of vineyards.

If you’re keen to visit a winery in Denmark, you can take the train to the Rosnaes peninsula, about 45 minutes outside of the city. At Dyrehøj Vineyard, you can buy award-winning wines and learn about everything from running a vineyard to grapes and fermentation methods on a guided tour.
