El Archivo Estatal de Nápoles se encuentra en el antiguo monasterio benedictino de los Santos Severino y Sossio, en el corazón del centro histórico de la ciudad. Su historia está ligada a la presencia, desde el siglo IX, de los benedictinos que habían fundado una coenobia donde, en el año 902, trasladaron el cuerpo de San Severino y, al cabo de un tiempo, las reliquias de San Sosio, encontradas en Miseno.
En el interior se encuentra la Sala Capitular de los Monjes, actual Sala de Catasti, pintada al fresco por Belisario Corenzio a principios del siglo XVII con parábolas, figuras alegóricas y escenas del Evangelio;
