The Cave of Calypso is located on the island of Othonoi and is an incredibly beautiful place.To understand the true beauty of this cave, you have to visit it several times because each time you will see it with different reflections and colors.Superb even with the gray sky. The sun, in any case, rises at 11 o'clock in the morning so I would not recommend it earlier.According to legend, in ancient times the island was that of the nymph Calypso, who lived in this large cave.It is said that Odysseus fell in love with her and was a prisoner there for seven years. Homer called this island Ogygia. Because of his writings, there was a strong scent of cypress on the island of Ogygia. Coincidence or not, Othonoi is a place with many of these trees. Odysseus left the island with a raft and sank on the island of Scheria in Corfu.This is an extra element that justifies the legend of Othonoi as Ogygia, because of the short distance separating the two islands.The cave is accessible only by boat but there are dinghy services and it is closeto the beach of "Aspri Ammos" .The same boat therefore can take you to see both.Absolutely worth seeing and taking a long swim!!!
