This popular village fountain (known as "Fuente de los Cinco Caños") receives its name from the five water spouts that never run dry. Although no one knows when it was built, it is generally assumed that the fountain dates back to the Moorish occupation of Andalusia, as the Moors loved the sight and sound of running water in their villages.
This fountain is certainly one of the most emblematic images of the villae of Alcaucín, and it draws people from a wide area in search of the tranquillity that it imbues and the medicinal qualities of the water.
According to tradition, if you drink from the middle spout, you will marry someone from the village! One thing is for certain, the water temperature is such that it is pleasantly refreshing in summer and winter alike.
