The Resurgence Park

The Risorgive Park is located in the municipality of Codroipo (UD) and includes an area of about 45 hectares. The park was created in 1983 to protect a wetland area of great value and biodiversity: that of the resurgences. The park protects a part of the territory of the so-called resurgences line, where water collected in the high plains and in the foothills of the mountains and which flows on the impermeable part of the subsoil, from the springs, or ollae, and fountains, comes to the surface. The waters emerge at a constant temperature of about 12-16 degrees centigrade and then flow, through the "ghebi" (narrow streams), into the Stella river. Other larger irrigation ditches were built following a canalisation carried out in the 1920s to reclaim the wetland. The main watercourses that run through the park are called Acqua Reale and Acqua Bianca. The resurgences create a humid environment characterized by watercourses, irrigation ditches, banks, riparian groves and, now rare, strips of lowland woods and alkaline fens. The bogs were formed in cold, stale water, devoid of oxygen where decomposition by bacteria was reduced. This dead marsh vegetation, at various stages of transformation, became peat. The arboreal vegetation consists of oak, hornbeam, field elm and oxyphilic ash. In the more humid areas there are black poplar and willows. We also find: the Amera Helodes, the winged gentian, the marshy Ecastrum and various species of orchids. The fauna is mainly comprised of roe deer, squirrels, other species of rodents, birds such as the jay and the woodpecker, although there are also birds of prey such as buzzards and sparrowhawks. The fish fauna is very varied and abundant. The Park of the Resurgences of Codroipo, veined with paths and dirt roads, dotted with resting places and open spaces, is always open and can be visited on foot. The visit is recommended in every season of the year.
