Pico do Papagaio, or Picco del Pappagallo in Italian, is a mountain located on the island of Ilha Grande, Brazil, and is one of the highest points on the island. The climb to the top of Pico do Papagaio is one of the most popular hikes on the island and offers spectacular views of the crystal clear ocean waters.If you only plan to do one hike on Ilha Grande, the climb to Pico do Papagaio is the one we recommend. This is the best hike on the island and will take you to one of the highest viewpoints on the island.If you are able to get up early on your vacation, we recommend that you do the hike at sunrise to see the sunrise. This is what we did and we loved it! We left Abraão at 1 a.m. to reach the top. It took only 3.5 hours with some short breaks.It is not mandatory to do the hike at dawn, but the heat would make the climb much more difficult during the day. Also, we recommend that you keep an eye out for wildlife along the way.A warning to travelers: Be warned that if you don't like wildlife (e.g. spiders), don't do the hike alone-there are many of them along the trail, especially at night!Overall, the hike to Pico do Papagaio is one of the most spectacular experiences you can have on Ilha Grande Island.
