Zibibbo

Zibibbo is an exceptionally fragrant and flavorful wine that brings to mind the colors and atmosphere of the Mediterranean. It is born precisely from Zibibbo grapes. The Zibibbo grape, is an aromatic vine that belongs to the Moscato family. Also known as Muscat of Alexandria, it comes from Egypt and was first spread by the Romans in the Mediterranean basin. Following the Arab domination of many parts of southern Europe, Zibibbo experienced a much wider spread. The name zibibbo comes from the Arabic word zibibb, meaning dried or raisin, which the Arabs made great use of. It is also a grape known in France, where it is called Muscat d'Alexandrie or Muscat romain, and in many other countries in both Europe and the New World, including Australia, Chile and Peru where it is used to make Pisco distillate. In Italy we find Zibibbo especially in Sicily, where, also traditionally cultivated as a table or raisin grape, it gives great wines such as Passito di Pantelleria.
