Top of the World
The Plaza Mayor as we knew before the colonial period, gathered the political, religious and military powers. Broadcast center for European culture, the richest families of the city were living here. Once the Republic began, the name changed to the actual name in memory of the revolutionary Pedro Domingo Murillo, hung on the square as an example of power determination of the Spanish crown in America. Today, even if La Paz is not the constitutional capital of the country, Murillo Square gathers the edifices of legislative and executive powers, as well as the metropolitan cathedral and an important police post.
