On one of the karst reliefs, where the stone again turns into a steep slope, is the Tabor or Rocca di Monrupino, a fortress that holds a shrine consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption inside. Also located within the walls are the Parish House and the House of the Comunanza, with simple, understated lines carved into the living stone and covered with stone slabs.

Sanctuary of Monrupino - Col | Secret World Trip Planner

The beautiful wide courtyard offers a peaceful atmosphere and a unique panorama. To the south, the eye embraces the Karst plateau in a quick glance and is lost on Socerb (S. Servolo) and Mount Slavnik (Taiano). To the west it sweeps over the Adriatic Sea with the mouth of the Isonzo, Grado, and Barbana. On clear days the lines of the lagoon become sharp as far as Venice, while above the Friulian plain the peaks of the Dolomites shine in the distance. Toward the east rises proudly the Nanos, a little further to the left the ?aven and the Ternova (Trnovo) plateau, sometimes the peaks of the Julian Alps are visible.

The Tabor, also known as Rocca di Monrupino, is a fortress built on a karst relief that houses a shrine dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption. Within its walls you'll also find the Parish House and the House of the Comunanza, both carved directly into the living stone with simple, understated architectural lines.
The fortress offers an exceptional wide courtyard with stunning 360-degree views including the Karst plateau, Mount Slavnik, the Adriatic Sea, the Isonzo mouth, Grado, and on clear days even Venice's lagoon lines and the distant Dolomites peaks. To the east, you can see the Nanos mountain and sometimes the Julian Alps.
Clear days are essential to fully appreciate the panoramic vistas from Monrupino, particularly if you want to see the distant peaks of the Dolomites and Julian Alps, as well as the sharp lines of Venice's lagoon to the west. Plan your visit during stable weather conditions for the most spectacular views across the karst landscape and Adriatic horizon.
The Sanctuary is a shrine consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Assumption, making it an important pilgrimage and worship site within the fortress walls. The spiritual significance is combined with the peaceful atmosphere created by the natural karst setting and the fortress's historical architecture.
The fortress is strategically positioned on a karst relief where stone creates a steep slope, and its structures including the Parish House and House of the Comunanza are carved directly into the living stone and covered with stone slabs.
