Tonale Pass - Passo del Tonale | Secret World Trip Planner

A border point between Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige and surrounded by the Adamello-Presanella, Ortles Cevedale and Brenta groups, Passo Tonale is an open and panoramic natural amphitheatre that stretches from 1,884 to 3,100 metres above sea level. A winter tourist resort par excellence, Passo Tonale has always been a guarantee for a long season on the snow thanks to the nearby Presena glacier. The Pass, completely exposed to the sun, is an ideal training ground for ski instruction, with tracks suitable for beginners but not only. From the legendary Paradiso black slope, 3 km long with a difference in altitude of 710 metres, to the long and panoramic Alpino slope with 4,500 metres of development and 725 metres of difference in altitude. Not to be missed is the Presena-Tonale-Ponte di Legno direttissima: 11 km of piste with a difference in height of 1,740 metres to be skied in one go! In addition to summer skiing on the glacier, there are many opportunities for excursions and trekking: particularly impressive are the ascent to the Presena lakes and the Presena Hut, at almost 3,000 metres, the ascent to Presanella, to the Paradiso Pass where in the Gallery you can visit an evocative display of sounds and voices testifying to the White War. Beyond the pass, the ascent to the peaks of Albiolo, theatre of battles where there are still trenches. On the pass there is an ancient hospice, with a small church dedicated to San Bartolomeo, dating back to 1127. The pastures of Tonale were for centuries a place of transhumance and one of the most famous passages since ancient times. The Paradiso and Presena cableways leading to the glacier are also open in the summer months, at the disposal of mountaineers and all those who want to try an excursion at high altitude.
