A very nice trekking in the Reserve of Mount Cofano - Custonaci | Secret World Trip Planner

A very nice trekking route is the one you can do in the Reserve of Monte Cofano. Along the coast to the prehistoric cave. A route immersed in the wonderful colours of Sicily, from the blue of the sea to the pink-red of the dolomite and the green of the Mediterranean scrub, to arrive at the natural reserve of Monte Cofano. The route is very long and recommended only for trained hikers (but you can stop on the beaches and in the incredible coves that follow one another on the coast). It will amaze you with its colors and the beautiful coastal views, with all shades of color of the sea, which blends with the green of the low Mediterranean scrub. The backdrop is Mount Cofano, a mountain that juts out into the sea, a massif of dolomite rock, which divides the Gulf of Cofano from the Gulf of Bonagia. All around the pink-red rock soars towards the sky contrasting with the blue and green. The stretch of coastline that you will walk along hides geological rarities, peculiarities, cavities and cultural emergencies that will be revealed by the Waypoints that you will find along the way. In Baia Santa Margherita you will find a beautiful beach of light-coloured sand, sometimes pink, set between the rocky coastline: here the seabed slopes gently, allowing the sea to change its hues from turquoise to deep blue...but don't give in to the temptation to swim straight away, because a long road awaits you! A little further on, you will find what remains of the Tonnara di Cofano, an enchanting fishing village that stands on the gulf, at the foot of the mountain, dominated by the magnificent coastal tower of the '500. A place shrouded in silence and dwarf palms where you will find coves of clear, transparent water. Continuing beyond the Passo della Zita, to which is linked a particular local legend, you will reach the final destination of the route: a large and evocative prehistoric cave, at the entrance of which reigns a thick vegetation of dwarf palms. The return journey, of similar duration to the outward journey, takes about 4 hours (at a slow pace).
