The decoration of the stairs known as "dei Mutilati" wants to celebrate and remember the figure of Alfonso Gatto, eclectic poet, writer, painter and art critic from Salerno.
The idea was carried out by the Alfonso Gatto Foundation in collaboration with the City of Salerno and executed by Roman visual artist Alice Pasquini in October 2014.
The mural follows the ramps with specific scenes in which portraits of young female figures and children dominate, followed from above by the pensive figure of Alfonso Gatto in the act of lighting a cigarette.
The artistic realization involved not only the walls but also the staircase that leads to Piazza principe Amedeo: on the risers of the ramps there are the verses of "Girotondo", "Un consiglio", "Chissà" and "Ogni uomo è stato un bambino", works of the Poet transcribed by the Salerno artist Greenpino.
