Cosenza

Cosenza is one of the most important cities of the whole Calabria, a region with ancient traditions and rich in history, which has hosted in its enchanting territory many peoples, who in an almost frenetic succession, have made this land unique, enriching it in an incredible way. Perhaps Cosenza is the symbol of the region: ancient history has left room for modernity, the ancient monuments harmoniously blend with all that modern architecture has created, creating a perfect marriage between past and present. But, to best describe this thriving Calabrian city, the words of the Capuchin writer of Romanticism, Cesare Malpica: "Here is Cosenza. White, all irradiated by the sun, sits queen of the Vallo, lady of the Casali that depend on her. She has no high bell towers because the frequent tremors forbid it. But she makes a good show of herself, like the one that sets where the Wall ends, it seems to be the port in which all the riches of the province have shelter, sale and splendor. The ancient part of the city of Cosenza can be discovered with a suggestive walking tour that will see you through winding alleys full of very interesting views. Starting from Corso Telesio, a street that until the nineteenth century was known as the Street of Merchants and Goldsmiths, you can cross the Busento Valley and reach the Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, of medieval times. Continuing even higher you reach Piazza XV Marzo, where you can take time to discover the Teatro Comunale dedicated to the famous pianist and composer Alfonso Rendano, the Library and the Villa Comunale.
