Filangieri estate of Candida Gonzaga - San Paolo Bel Sito | Secret World Trip Planner

The villa covers about thirty hectares and is similar to a farm that embraces a large courtyard. There are two outdoor areas: an Italianate park and a grove. On the ground floor are the animal stables and rooms used for processing agricultural products. Characteristic are the cellars where a huge winepress made from a single cypress tree trunk towers above. The property was initially purchased by the Mastrilli family. Then, in the early 19th century, following the marriage of Vincenza Mastrilli to Baron Francesco de Clario, the villa passed to the latter's family. In 1920 it passed to the Filangieri family after the marriage of Eleonora de Clario to Riccardo Filangieri.

The cellars are notable for housing a massive winepress carved from a single cypress tree trunk, which towers impressively above the cellar space. This architectural feature is one of the most characteristic elements of the estate and reflects its historical wine production heritage.
The property was originally purchased by the Mastrilli family, then passed to the De Clario family in the early 19th century through Vincenza Mastrilli's marriage to Baron Francesco de Clario. It finally came to the Filangieri family in 1920 when Eleonora de Clario married Riccardo Filangieri.
The ground floor contains animal stables and dedicated rooms designed for processing agricultural products, demonstrating the villa's dual purpose as both a residential estate and a working farm.
