Where is the most beautiful place in Ulm? Exactly - in the Fischerviertel! You stroll, eat and store well. Romantic winding alleys lead through well-preserved and beautifully restored half-timbered houses. Galleries, specialty stores and small boutiques entice you to look around and shop. Numerous restaurants in all directions replenish the energy needs after the stroll. Several pubs invite you to sit down and celebrate.
The quarter is crossed by the canals of the small and big Blau. The Blau rises in the nearby Blaubeuren to the Blautopf. In your clear and fresh water you can even watch the trout. Numerous species of birds are also attracted to the water. The district owes its existence to the Blau. It provided the water power for the mills located here and the water access to the Danube.
In addition to millers, fishermen and boatmen, tanners and dyers also settled here in the Middle Ages. These needed a lot of water for the processing of animal skins and the dyeing of fabrics. In the times of industrialization, these trades lost their importance. The neighborhood became impoverished and did not play a major role for a long time. The bombs of the war largely spared the neighborhood and after the war it was carefully rebuilt.
Today the quarter is a popular residential area and due to its many restaurants and pubs the party hotspot of Ulm at the weekend. Actually, the quarter is called Fischer- und Gerberviertel. But in the linguistic usage the abbreviated version of the fishermen's quarter has naturalized.
