Murano

Originally glassmaking was concentrated in Venice, but given the high production since 1295 the Serenissima decided to move the furnaces to the larger island of Murano. Glass production followed a slow and inexorable decline in its history, but those who go to visit this island can admire the numerous small tourist stores located along the Fondamenta dei Vetrai skirting the small canal that meanders into the interior of the island. Here one can visit in succession the numerous glass sales and production rooms. The best time to visit the island is during the week, when the furnaces are open, so you can see firsthand how Murano's famous glass products are made.
