The renowned Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum, with its world-famous Ancient Egyptian collection, one of the largest Ancient Peruvian collections in Europe and the impressive paleontological collection has a distinguished reputation that goes far beyond the borders of the region. The museum’s ancient Egyptian collection comprises around 9,000 objects from all epochs, ranging from Egypt’s pre-historical era to the Roman and Christian age. There is a strong focus on exhibits from the age of the Pyramids. Visitors will find unusual objects and artworks spanning a period of 4,000 years, as well as tools and agricultural implements. There are pieces that reveal the ancient Egyptians’ sense of humour along with writings about the afterlife, thus opening up a fascinating window on life in ancient Egypt. The museum has also the second largest collection of Chinese porcelain in Europe. The facility also has extensive collections of natural history, numbering over 300 thousand exhibits and a collection of paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries
