The Naturalistic Museum of Alburni - Corleto Monforte | Secret World Trip Planner

The Museo Naturalistico degli Alburni (Naturalistic Museum of the Alburni) is located in a building in the historical centre of Corleto Monforte. Its birth is due to the favour of Camillo Pignataro, current scientific director of the museum, who donated his private collection: a rich zoological heritage belonging to the fauna of the Alburni. The museum has more than 60 species of mammals, in particular canids, felids and mustelids, 530 species of European birds, among which the series of nocturnal birds of prey and passerines stand out for their beauty. There are also more than 20,000 insects, mainly represented by lepidopterans, beetles, especially European scarab beetles, and a rich collection of entomofauna typical of the mountainous area to which the museum is dedicated, as well as various specimens of arachnids and decapod crustaceans. All the specimens are accompanied by information on the scientific and vernacular nomenclature and in some cases enriched with a map showing the distribution area of the species. The museum tends towards its expansion through the acquisition of collections of fish, amphibians and reptiles reproduced in resin. Dioramas showing the most interesting environments of the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park are also being prepared.
