Near the Church of St. Valentine in Roccantica there is a splendid view of the Sabina hills. Hills, which have become famous for the extensive olive groves that paint the landscape a silvery green. Ruins and farmhouses lie on gentle rocky slopes and evoke the paintings of the ancient arcadia. in strong contrast to these scenarios are the endless forests of oak trees that crossed give the feeling of being immersed in an enchanted environment, populated by fairy creatures. It is precisely in such a place that the large karst sinkhole of Revotano is located. One day the beautiful woman went to the stream to wash her clothes and while she was talking to herself she heard a voice rising from the water. It foretold that God would unleash his wrath against the unbelievers, making the earth tremble, but he reassured the young woman by telling her that she and her son would be saved. And so it was that a great earthquake indeed came, but the brook called to the bride and said to her, "Run blonde, the earth is sinking." In this way she was saved and founded a new village, which then became Roccantica. Legends apart, the Revotano is a chasm, originated by the collapse of the vault and the walls, which has frightening proportions, about 250 m in diameter, and is one of the most important karst formations of the central Apennines. Covered by thick vegetation, at the base of the Revotano abyss there are the remains of the collapsed rocks and the "red earth".
