Dutifully crossing the mosaic floor, composed of marble tesserae and glass paste in vivid colors, one is greeted by a profusion of early Christian decorations, similar to those found in St. Mark's Basilica. Vine branches, flowers, peacocks and eagles come to life on the floors, creating an evocative atmosphere. But the real masterpiece is the majestic glass mosaic in the apse basin, dating back to the 12th century, which depicts a praying Madonna on a golden background. This precious mosaic brings to mind the Byzantine iconography found in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Torcello.Inside the basilica, two special curiosities can also be admired. One is the Christ Crucified, made of hand-blown glass by Maestro Ermanno Nason, which stands majestically. The other is an original candlestick, also made of glass, made by Luciano Vistosi, famous for his Murano glass designs.Outside, in the field in front of the cathedral, one can see the Romanesque beauty of the bell tower, a tower divided into three orders with a belfry at the top.
