The historic Hanselmann Patisserie, founded in 1894, is a true institution and a must-see during a stay in the town. The pastry shop is finely decorated and its interior recalls the typical décor of the Belle Époque.The secret of the centenary success of the Hanselmann Cafeteria in Saint Moritz is well known to the Engadine and to all visitors: quality of the products and attention to the customer. The passion of its founders, the Hanselmann couple, for good food and their generosity made it possible to overcome economic difficulties and to make their specialities known, giving rise to traditions that are still celebrated today. The Hanselmann Cafeteria is a cornerstone of Saint-Moritz, a paradise of sweets guarded from the beginning by the same family for four generations. Fritz Hanselmann and his wife Theresia Müller both came from southern Germany. They came to Switzerland at the end of the 19th century and founded their business, symbolically in 1894, the year their daughter Clara was born. Mr. Hanselmann was a baker, while his wife devoted herself to other cooking recipes, and together they devised new and original guest services for the time. Tourists, but also famous visitors, were welcomed in the private apartment, tempted by the cosy couple and the special tea created by combining three different types, becoming the first tea room in St. Moritz. The bakery is definitely worth a visit for a simple, quick break in the day for those arriving with the Bernina Express or for those staying longer, to discover a little piece of the history of this town.
