Monte Solaro - Monte Solaro | Secret World Trip Planner

At 589 meters above sea level, Monte Solaro is the highest peak on the island. The easiest and most comfortable way to get there is by chairlift from Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri. If you wish, you can also walk up (one of the paths starts from the Viale di Villa San Michele), although I would recommend the descent, which is certainly less tiring and easier for everyone. Locals often refer to Monte Solaro as the "Acchiappanuvole" or "cloud catcher" because of the thick blanket of fog that forms around the summit, especially at dawn, when the temperature difference between the sea and the rock is accentuated. The warmer and more humid sea air condenses into a dense fog on the ground, the temperature of which is greatly diminished during the night. Where its path is obstructed, the vapours rise upwards, generating a characteristic crown of clouds. This phenomenon also occurs in the evening, especially in autumn. However, the wind clears parts of the clouds, randomly revealing various segments of the beautiful island landscape below. The view that opens to the eyes of tourists is simply heavenly: from the two gulfs of Naples and Salerno, to the Amalfi Coast with the islets of the Galli, to the Apennines in the distance. At the same time, if we lower our gaze a little, we can see the whole island of Capri in all its splendour.

The easiest and most comfortable way to reach the summit is by chairlift from Piazza Vittoria in Anacapri. Monte Solaro is nicknamed "Acchiappanuvole" (cloud catcher) because thick fog frequently forms around its 589-meter summit, especially at dawn and evening. This phenomenon occurs when warm, humid sea air condenses into dense fog on the cooler ground, creating a characteristic crown of clouds that shifts as the wind clears different sections.
From Monte Solaro's summit, you can see breathtaking panoramic views including the gulfs of Naples and Salerno, the Amalfi Coast with the Galli islets, the distant Apennines, and the entire island of Capri below. The wind often clears sections of clouds, randomly revealing different segments of the beautiful landscape.
The cloud catcher phenomenon is most prominent at dawn and in the evening, particularly in autumn, when the temperature difference between the sea and the rock is most accentuated. If you want to experience the dense fog crown while still seeing the landscape below, visit when the wind is clearing patches through the clouds.
Monte Solaro stands at 589 meters above sea level and is the highest peak on the island of Capri. It is famous both for its stunning panoramic views of the surrounding gulfs, coasts, and islands, and for its mysterious cloud formations that earn it the poetic nickname "cloud catcher."
