Located on the second floor of a historic building at Calle Concordia 418, the venue occupies what was once a bourgeois apartment from the pre-revolutionary era, with high ceilings, original tiled floors, and walls covered with photographs, statues, and art objects accumulated over the years.
Opened in 1996 by the couple Enrique Núñez and Odeisys Pérez, La Guarida was born as a paladar, meaning one of those private restaurants authorized by the Cuban government following the economic reforms of the 1990s. The venue gained international notoriety also thanks to the Cuban film Fresa y Chocolate (1993) by Tomás Gutiérrez Alea, some scenes of which were filmed right in this building. Since then, the restaurant has become a destination for international celebrities: among the most famous visitors are Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who dined there during their controversial trip to Cuba in 2013, helping to solidify its worldwide fame.

The worn steps, the peeling walls revealing layers of different colors, the windows overlooking inner courtyards where the neighborhood life flows undisturbed: everything contributes to creating a unique atmosphere, suspended between the luxury of a distant past and the contemporary reality of Havana. Once seated, the soft light of vintage lamps and the ceiling decorated with original stuccos transform the dining room into something resembling a movie set.

The entrance is not prominently marked: you need to look for the civic number and climb the internal stairs of the building to the second floor.
Reservation is essential, especially during the high tourist season, from December to March. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, but the evening is the best time to fully appreciate the atmosphere, with artificial lighting enhancing the interiors. Arriving a few minutes before the reserved time allows you to calmly visit the different rooms and go up to the roof before sitting down at the table.
