Artichokes of Sezze Romano

The Roman artichoke of Sezze is produced in a climatic area particularly suited to its cultivation: the Lepini Mountains protect it from the north while the sea breeze warms it from the southwest, favoring the development of the typical characteristics of this crop. To the eye it has spherical, compact and thornless flower heads, green outer bracts tending to purplish, its flavor is sweet and pleasant, the texture of the inner leaves and heart is soft. While artichoke cultivation is well spread in the southern regions, it is in Latium that the best crops have been established up to the excellence of Carciofo Romanesco, protected at the EU level.
